To promote international academic exchange and dialogue, build a top-tier academic bonds and cultivate outstanding talents in the field of global health, we hereby launch the 2025 Fudan University Global Health International Summer School. We sincerely invite excellent students from around the world to gather in Shanghai to share wisdom and define innovation through practice.
Introduction to the International Summer School on Global Health
This summer school, themed Innovation and Action in Global Health, focuses on hot topics such as global pandemics response, AI and innovations, global health financing and spending, equal accessibility of health product innovations and data to policy. This course has four course modules: Global Health Issues and Countermeasures, Global Health Planning and Investment, Global Health Security and Diplomacy and Global Health Governance Practices.
This summer school will be held at Fudan University's Fenglin Campus from June 23 to July 11, 2025. Hosted by Fudan University Shanghai Medical College, this summer school aims to provide a unique learning platform for young students with global health background to broaden their horizons and promote academic thinking. More than 20 internationally renowned scholars with rich teaching experiences will be invited to teach intensively on the latest changes and hot issues in global health field. Approximately 60 outstanding students will be selected from global applicants and those who pass the assessment will be awarded a certificate of completion.
In addition, participants will explore the city, engage in cultural exchanges at Shanghai landmarks and experience the captivating charm of Chinese culture. This summer school will be conducted through lectures, group discussions, and field visits. The schedule is detailed in Appendix 1.
Course Content
This summer school brings together world-class scholars for interactive teaching. The courses adopt a participatory approach, including lectures, group discussions and activities, with assessments based on scientific articles and group presentations.
Module 1: Global Health Issues and Responses
Topics: This module addresses core global health issues, integrating theory and practice. Experts will systematically analyze the definition of global health, determinants of health, and strategies to address major health challenges, including demographic and epidemiological transitions, determinants of health, global pandemic response practices, vaccine planning, primary healthcare, progress and challenges in combating neglected tropical diseases as well as innovative AI solutions for health issues.
Module 2: Global Health Planning and Investment
Topics: This module examines practical cases and financing strategies of organizations such as Global Fund, Gavi and Unitaid. It systematically explores the use of external aid and domestic resources to fund global health initiatives, covering topics such as global health investment, health expenditure, national health financing policies for universal health coverage, key elements of successful investment cases, health product innovation and Gavi's collaboration to achieve global health equity.
Module 3: Global Health Security and Diplomacy
Topics: This module analyzes key stakeholders in global health governance, contemporary challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitics, opportunities brought by technological advancements and ongoing intergovernmental negotiations on pandemic treaties. Topics include power and governance in global health diplomacy, the role of state and non-state actors, current status of pandemic treaty negotiations as well as pandemic preparedness and response.
Module 4: Global Health Governance Practices
Topics: This module explores practical cases of global and regional health governance, focusing on transforming health investments into measurable outcomes. Key topics include improving regional health resource accessibility, addressing localization challenges and translating data into policy. Discussions will cover funding-to-outcome efficiency, data-driven policy-making, enhancing accessibility and equity in health products and the future of global health in a changing global and regional landscape.
Applicant Requirements:
Excellent master and doctoral students currently enrolled worldwide.
Background in Public Health, Global Health, Philosophy, Law, Sociology, Journalism, Economics, Management, International Relations or related fields, with a strong interest in global health.
Proficiency in English (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) to fully participate in English-taught courses.

Tuition is free. All other expenses (e.g., accommodation, travel) are to be covered by the participant.
Scholarships:
Approximately 10 outstanding international students will receive scholarships subsiding for international travel and accommodation expenses.
