OnOctober 30, 2023, representatives from the Faculty of Medicine,Imperial College London, met with the President of Fudan University.The participants in the meeting included Dr. Jonathan Weber, formerDean of the Faculty of Medicine and Current Director of the AcademicHealth Science Centre (AHSC); Dr. Paul Elliott, Head of theDepartment of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Imperial CollegeLondon; Dr. Jeremy Nicholson, Vice-Chancellor of Murdoch University;Dr. Li Jin, President of Fudan University; Dr. Wu Xiaohui, Directorof the Graduate School and Director of the Academic Affairs Office ofShanghai Medical College at Fudan University; and Dr. Hongyang Xu,Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Office of ShanghaiMedical College at Fudan University. Both sides engaged in in-depthdiscussions on medical education, interdisciplinary collaboration,joint cultivation of medical talents, international researchcollaboration, and university-industry collaboration.
Dr.Jonathan Weber provided a detailed overview of Imperial CollegeLondon's experience and insights in establishing a medical school incollaboration with Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Heemphasized the crucial importance of collaboration with Chineseuniversities, expressing the hope to start joint cultivation ofmedical students and send them from Fudan University to ImperialCollege London for Bachelor's or Clinical-related Ph.D. programs.
Dr.Li Jin introduced Fudan University's interdisciplinary collaboration,the 8-year physician-scientist cultivation model, the MBBS programfor international students, and infrastructure construction. Heexpressed the need to select priority disciplines based on thestrategic planning of both universities for effective on-sitecollaboration.
