OnOctober 31, 2023, a delegation from the Karolinska Institute, led byVice Dean Robert Harris, visited the Shanghai Medical College ofFudan University . Dr. Fan Wu, Vice Dean of Shanghai Medical College,welcomed the delegation. Dr. Fan Wu, on behalf of Shanghai MedicalCollege, received the representatives from the Karolinska Institute,briefly introduced the cooperation foundation and advantages betweenthe two institutions, and expressed expectations for collaboration instudent exchange programs, faculty training, as well as researchcooperation in public health, cancer treatment, bioinformatics, andother fields.
Dr.Robert Harris provided an overview of medical education at theKarolinska Institute and highlighted research advancements inmolecular medicine, neuroscience, epidemiology, public health, andclinical medicine. He discussed major achievements in translationalresearch, such as innovations in intervention using microcathetersand the groundbreaking study on predictive biomarkers for ALS. Heexpressed a vision for strong collaboration and joint efforts ineducation and research.
Dr.Fan Wu proposed joint efforts with the Karolinska Institute,leveraging strengths in public health, cancer treatment, andbioinformatics. Additionally, Dr. Fan Wu suggested the establishmentof a long-term program for cultivating young scholars and hoped toinitiate comprehensive and interdisciplinary cooperation, startingwith student exchange programs, to achieve mutual benefits.
Duringthe meeting, Dr. Robert Harris and Dr. Hongyang Xu, Deputy Directorof the International Cooperation Office at Shanghai Medical College,engaged in in-depth discussions on the college history, disciplinarysystems, scientific research, strengths, international cooperation,and vision goals.
ErikaDabhikar, Director of the International Relations Office; ProfessorLi Nailin, Research Project Coordinator; and Mia Bjerke,International Coordinator at the Karolinska Institute, as well as Dr.Gang Wang, Vice Dean of the School of Life Sciences; Professor XuBiao, School of Public Health; Professor Suo Chen, AssociateProfessor; and Zhai Xiaowen Vice Dean of the Affiliated PediatricHospital from Fudan University participated in the discussion.
