On June 6, 2023, Dr. Hoshinaga Kiyotaka, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Fujita Academy and former President of Fujita Health University, and his delegation visited Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University. The delegation's visit marked the first official communication between Shanghai Medical College and Fujita Health University.

The delegation was led by Dr. Hoshinaga Kiyotaka, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Fujita Academy, Dr.Yuzawa Yukio, President of Fujita Health University,Takahashi Kazuhiro, Director of the International Exchange Promotion Center, Ms.Uchida, Chief Secretary of the Center, General Manager Kai Motojiro and Assistant General Manager Zhong Xuqing of Shanghai Chartwell Medical Instrument Co., Ltd.The delegation received a warm welcome at a reception hosted by Dr. Zhenghong Yuan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Fudan University and Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai Medical College, and presided over by Dr. Fan Wu, Deputy Dean of Shanghai Medical College.Among the attendees were Dr. Jun Pan, Deputy Dean of the School of Pharmacy at Fudan University; Dr. Hongyang Xu, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation at Shanghai Medical College, Fudan University; Dr. Bin Ji, Researcher at the Department of Radiopharmaceutical Science of the School of Pharmacy at Fudan University; Dr. Minggui Wang, Director of the Institute of Antibiotics at Huashan Hospital; and Dr. Yulian Zhu, Deputy Director of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Huashan Hospital.

First, Dr. Hoshinaga Kiyotaka, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Fujita Academy, introduced the background and achievements of Fujita Health University. He stated that Fujita Health University, founded in 1968, is a private university located in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, and has been highly ranked in the ‘World University Ranking’ lists published by renowned outlets for the past several years. He told the attendees that Fujita Health University is an imperative research and development base for anti-infective drugs in Japan. He also remarked that the official affiliated hospital of Fujita Health University is known for being the first in Japan to introduce ‘Da Vinci Robots’, as well as for having an internationally standardized rehabilitation treatment department.

                      

Following this, Dr. Zhenghong Yuan, on behalf of Shanghai Medical College, officially welcomed the delegation from Fujita Health University. Dr. Zhenghong Yuan presented the basis for the foundation of cooperation between the two universities.

He mentioned the 15-year working relationship between Dr. Hiroshi Toyama, Chairman of the Department of Radiology of Fujita Health University, and Dr. Bin Ji, Researcher at the Department of Radiopharmaceutical Science of the School of Pharmacy at Fudan University, with regard to their research studies and projects. Remarking that Fujita Health University acted as the Japanese clinical trial center of the radioactive diagnostic drug 123I-AD-DRK, developed by Dr. Bin Ji of Fudan University, he also stated that Dr. Minggui Wang, Director of the Institute of Antibiotics of Huashan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University, and Dr. Yohei Doi, Professor at the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Fujita Health University School of Medicine, maintained a long term cooperative relationship while promoting an innovative Chinese pharmaceutical drug in the Japanese market. Dr. Zhenghong Yuan expressed his hopes that the mutually beneficial and cooperative relationship between the two universities could be explored further in the fields of scientific research.

Dr. Kazuo Takashi, Director of the Center for International Relations of Fujita Health University, and Dr. Hongyang Xu, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation of Shanghai Medical College, each made detailed summaries on the history of the establishment of the two universities, the disciplinary system, scientific research, the main fields of study, international cooperation, vision, and goals. The two sides continued the meeting while discussing the cooperation needed to be carried out in the future.

Dr. Fan Wu, Deputy Dean of Shanghai Medical College, stated that she hoped to achieve Fudan University’s long-term goal by providing society with the ability to ‘age healthy’ with the support of Fujita Health University, keeping in mind its foundation in the field of rehabilitation. Shanghai Medical College, with its practical training base for robotic surgery due to the "1+X" model, could assist Fujita Health University in further exploring robotic surgery.                    

To signify this new era, Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University will prioritize medical issues relevant to people’s health, strengthen cooperation, achieve significant advancements in medicine and research, and foster exchanges and collaborations with Fujita Health University.
