On 18th November 2024, a delegation led by Mayor Jules Vincent Radich from Dunedin, New Zealand and Jessica Palmer, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Otago, visited Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Dr. Zhenghong Yuan, President of Shanghai Medical College and Vice President of Fudan University.
Dr. Zhenghong Yuan reflected on the earlier visit of a delegation from Shanghai Medical College to Dunedin's city hall and the University of Otago, highlighting progress in collaborative research and educational training projects. He expressed a desire to deepen academic exchanges, talent cultivation, and research cooperation in the field of health, aiming to contribute to global medical development.
Mayor Jules Radich highlighted the strong 30-years long friendship between Dunedin and Shanghai, noting that the collaboration between the University of Otago and Fudan University is a practical step to enhance cooperation between the two cities. Pro Vice-Chancellor Jessica Palmer expressed hopes to expand the existing cooperation in global health and public health fields.
The Office of International Cooperation and Exchange at Fudan University presented an overview of Shanghai Medical College. Representatives from various departments, including Basic Medical Sciences, Public Health, and Shanghai Stomatological hospital, shared insights into their educational and research activities.
Both sides engaged in thorough discussions about future collaboration plans and specific implementation pathways. They agreed to further promote exchanges among researchers and educational projects, facilitate student visits, and enhance academic interactions and resource sharing.
Following the meeting, the delegation toured the School of Stomatology at Fudan University and its affiliated Shanghai Stomatological hospital to learn about its educational philosophy, medical standards, and research capabilities, expressing anticipation for more collaborative opportunities in the future. Officials from the Medical Party and Government Office and the Digital Medicine Research Center also participated in hosting the delegation.
