Representatives of US Department of Health and Human Services visits Shanghai Medical College

On March 20th, 2023, Ms. Erika Elvander, a representative of the US Department of Health and Human Services in China and Ms. Lingyun Yao, a health official from the US Department of Health and Human Services in China visited Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University. Ms. Kate Feldman, Consulate General of the United States of America in Shanghai; and Ms. Jing Ma, Commissioner for Economy for the Consulate General of the United States of America accompanied the visit.

The representatives were welcomed by Dr. Fan Wu, Vice Dean of Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University. Other attendees from Shanghai Medical College included Dr. Weibing Wang, Director of  the Department of Epidemiology, Fudan University and Dr. Hongyang Xu, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation, Shanghai Medical College, Fudan University. 


Ms. Erika Elvander expressed her views on how international cooperation would help contribute to providing solutions for the global health problems prevalent in the world today. Dr. Fan Wu introduced the long history and relationship between the US Consulate in Shanghai, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University. She shared the latest progress in medical research in recent years and spoke of the efforts of Shanghai Medical College in treating different diseases in the past few years. 

Dr. Weibing Wang spoke about the possible direction of future public health research and expressed his support for promoting international scientific research cooperation in the field of public health. Dr. Hongyang Xu expressed her hope that accomplished academicians and researchers from Shanghai Medical College would be able to go abroad soon and that relationships between the US and Shanghai Medical College would establish via more collaborations.  

After thorough discussions and exchanges between the two sides, Vice Dean Fan Wu proposed prospects for the exchange of teachers and students, medical education and training, and application for international joint projects between Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University and well-known universities in the United States in order to increase collaboration. Ms. Erika Elvander and Ms. Kate Feldman stated that they would strive to promote cooperation between the two countries,  while endorsing China's efforts to the well-being of people throughout the world.
