On November 10, 2024, the Eye & ENT Hospital of Fudan University hosted the Fudan-Harvard Scholars Forum as part of its Clinical Medicine Week. The event began with a welcome speech by Dr. Xingtao Zhou, Director of the Refractive Surgery Center. Notable attendees included Dr. Xiaofen Mo, Director of the Double First-Class Office, and Dr. Hongyang Xu, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation at Shanghai Medical College.
The morning session focused on clinical research, featuring 18 participants who presented findings on topics such as Clinical Research Methodology, Frontiers in Otolaryngology Research, and Innovative Applications in Ophthalmology. Dr. Yuhong Chen shared insights from her research on angle-closure glaucoma, emphasizing how her Harvard training enriched her clinical perspective and research skills. Dr. Na Gao highlighted teamwork's role in clinical trials through her presentation on cochlear implant validation and hearing aid research. Additionally, Dr. Li Hu discussed rigorous data analysis standards learned during her training, while Dr. Chenlong Li presented his study on using healthy ear canal skin grafts for reconstructive surgery in congenital ear canal atresia.
In the afternoon, a faculty training session showcased achievements from 15 clinical educators who participated in Harvard's T2T Clinical Teaching Program. Participants noted that the training introduced advanced teaching methods and deepened their understanding of clinical education's importance.
During a discussion segment, Dr. Xiaofen Mo shared advancements in research and clinical practices at the hospital, reinforcing its leading position in otolaryngology. Department heads Dr. Peijie He and Dr. Ke Zheng emphasized medical education's foundational role in progress, while Deputy Directors Dr. Shan Sun and Dr. Yi Sun discussed challenges and innovations in research management. Dr. Wenxian Li, Head of Anesthesiology, encouraged young physicians to embrace learning opportunities for personal development and committed to fostering a supportive environment for growth.
In her closing remarks, Dr. Hongyang Xu stressed balancing input and output in medical talent development, urging educators and students to maintain an open mindset for international exchange and cooperation. Dr. Xiaofen Mo expressed gratitude to speakers for their contributions, noting that participation in the Harvard Scholars Program significantly benefits young physicians and enhances the broader medical community associated with Fudan University’s Eye & ENT Hospital.
